  • Call for Proposals
    The United Nations in Lebanon, in collaboration with the Issam Fares Institute, is seeking proposals for a project titled, “Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals: Listening to the Voices of the ‘furthest-behind’”. The project aims to include the voices of those left ‘furthest-behind’ in contributing to the localization of the 2030 SDG Agenda in Lebanon and in the formation of development policies in the country. Grants awarded range from $9,000–$14,000 USD. Deadline: 6 March, 2017. Read more

  • Intellectual and religious freedom in the region
    “Ethnic groups, and ethnicized religious groups, are both actors and victims of identity politics … Through the 20th Century their members struggled to assert themselves and be recognized as citizens”.   • Lebanon showcases at COP22 cross-sectoral collaboration towards climate change action
    Dr. Nadim Farajalla, Program Director for the Climate Change and Environment Program at the Institute gave a presentation at a side-event organized by our Institute, the Ministry of Environment, and UNDP, at the Marrakech Climate Change Conference - COP22.   • "Interventions in Conflict: International Peacemaking in the Middle East"
    The talks in this edited volume were part of the Issam Fares Institute’s Bill and Sally Hambrecht Distinguished Peacemakers Lecture Series. This volume presents reflections from prominent international peacemakers in the Middle East, including Jimmy Carter, Lakhdar Brahimi, Jan Eliasson, Alvaro de Soto, and others. It provides unique insights and lessons learned about diplomacy and international peace mediation practice based on real life experience. Edited by Rami G.   • “Jordan’s energy match: solar 1 nuclear 0”
    “Academic studies in the United States estimate that solar photovoltaic power creates more than six times as many jobs as nuclear power for each unit of electricity generated. And since solar electricity will very soon be, if it is not already, cheaper than nuclear power, there will be more jobs created for each dollar invested in solar photovoltaics than nuclear power.”

    AUB's Issam Fares Institute has produced an infographic on the reality of birth registration of refugees coming from Syria to Lebanon. This infographic stems from ongoing discussions initiated by the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee (LPDC) at the Prime Minister's office, in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, UNHCR, UNRWA, NRC, and the Issam Fares Institute. The content of the infographic is based on data collected by NRC.
